Innovative Production Facilities for Aquascot

Dawsongroup tcs has been providing Aquascot with blast freezers, tempering units and cold stores for years, however, last year, Aquascot was approached by a prominent luxury food store about becoming the sole supplier of their salmon goods. Their infrastructure wasn’t substantial enough to accommodate the extra production demand and their new factory, which is being built half a mile away from their current site, is not set to be ready for another three years.

The team needed a solution to quickly grow their infrastructure to take on the new contract. They approached Steve Arthur, Project Development Manager at tcs, about hiring units to create a new production space to meet demand.

"Dawsongroup tcs has been a significant contributor to our success."

Doubled Production Space in Three Weeks

Aquascot needed a flexible solution that could fit seamlessly with their current infrastructure. The space they’d set aside for their new facility was uneven and difficult to develop without extensive construction. An additional complication was the complex draining systems Aquascot required for smooth and efficient operations.

The team at Dawsongroup tcs provided eleven modular units, fitted with a ramp between the new and existing buildings, more than doubling Aquascot’s production space. This facility was able to transform the previously unused yard into a fully functional smoked salmon filleting line, including a complete drainage system. The adjustable legs were able to raise the building off the ground, removing the need for excavation or reinstatement and facilitating the required drainage space.

Consultation is Key

This exceptional solution was only possible because of the in-depth consultation process offered by Dawsongroup tcs, including a site visit. This helped to set the parameters of the project and gave a clear indication of its scope and demands, highlighting key concerns, and enabling the design team to make alternative, unconsidered suggestions. Aquascot was closely involved with the development process, with several iterations of the design being produced to ensure they could maximise their unused space.

“Aquascot needed specialist equipment to meet the high standards of food production here in the UK,” said Steve Arthur. “We really pushed the envelope on the design, going above and beyond to ensure all their needs were met. And it paid off, their new site helped them land their new contract.”

A New Way of Thinking About Space

Aquascot’s modular facility was ready for production in just a handful of months, enabling Aquascot to take on multiple new contracts. This new way of thinking about space offers an opportunity for expansion with minimal risk and site disruption.
