Iceland is one of Britain’s fastest-growing and most innovative retailers, which work alongside XPO Logistics who operate their 5 Regional distribution centres and retail delivery operations across the UK.

New Beginnings
With the constant need to change and improve within the food industry, Iceland was looking for a solution to extend their chill space due to meeting the customers retail volume requirements for Christmas 2018 and beyond.

Paul Ward, General Manager, commented that ‘the plan to add space on the side of the existing chill chamber seemed the only logical approach, Dawsongroup temperature control solutions (DGTCS) were by far the quickest to react to my request’.

The external bespoke build provides not only flexibility but much needed extra chilled capacity. Paul continued to say ‘we see this as a dynamic space that will change its purpose as we transition into different periods of the year, giving us options we didn’t have before’.

From initial contact to the final handover meeting, the project build was completed on time within the 16 weeks’ time period, this meant that minimal disruption was caused to XPO daily operations.
